It was torture for Arsenal fans having to watch Cesc Fabregas lift the Premier League title on his debut season with Chelsea last term but Arsene Wenger’s decision not to re-sign the Spanish midfielder is starting to look a good one.
The Gunners rejected the chance to bring the 28-year-old back to the Emirates in 2014 and Fabregas provided 18 assists for his team-mates as the Blues romped to the league title last year.
However, after a brilliant first season back in England, Fabregas has struggled in a floundering Chelsea side this term.
Part of Wenger’s thinking in not re-signing the midfielder was to give a chance to Arsenal’s next generation and it’s another Barcelona youth product, Hector Bellerin, that shines as bright as anyone in the Frenchman’s side.
The Spanish defender played a brilliant pass for Alex Iwobi’s goal against Everton this afternoon and, astonishingly, it means he now has as many assists as Fabregas this season – who is stuck on a lowly four.
