I declined Barcelona to secure Chelsea move, reveals Musonda

Musonda transferred to the Premier League side in 2012 from Anderlecht’s famous academy as a 16-year-old, although he is yet to play for the first team.

At the time Barcelona were keen on signing the midfielder but the 19-year-old, currently on loan at Real Betis, rejected the advances from La Liga to sign for Chelsea.

And Musonda has now revealed that the reason he agreed to move to the Blues was because they were also agreeing deals to sign his brothers, Lamisha and Tika.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca, Musonda said: “It is true that I rejected Barcelona because Chelsea also agreed to sign my brothers.

“At the time, it was very important for the family that we all joined the same club. We wanted to stick together. Barcelona are among the best in the world, but it was important for me to have my family with me.”

Musonda moved to La Liga on loan in January and since his transfer the youngster has played the full 90 minutes in each of his seven matches in the Spanish top flight.

The Belgian has also netted once in those contests, coming in the 2-2 draw with Deportivo in February.

It’s been an impressive run for Musonda with Betis only losing one La Liga contest since the player joined them at the start of the year.

Chelsea are yet to give a full team debut to any of the Musonda trio, with Lamisha leaving in 2014.
