Chelsea keen on Stones and Lukaku as part of Conte’s overhaul

Chelsea are still keen on signing Everton duo Romelu Lukaku and John Stones as they prepare for a major squad overhaul under Antonio Conte this summer.

Lukaku first came to England as one of the brightest young talents in Europe, joining Chelsea from Anderlecht, but he never managed to break into the first team at Stamford Bridge.

However, after four years of regularly scoring in the top flight during spells West Bromwich Albion and Everton, it seems the Blues are interested in making up for lost time and bringing him back, according to ESPN FC.

Also, the Stamford Bridge club are understood to be very interested in reigniting their interest in John Stones, a player they see as so talented that they were willing to spend £40 million on him last year.

Stones was a priority signing for Jose Mourinho last season as he saw cracks starting to appear in his ageing defence. As it happened, Chelsea failed to acquire his signature and the Portuguese lost his job at the club after losing nine of their opening 16 league matches.

The defender has been closely monitored by Chelsea since his move to Everton, while Lukaku has emerged as one of the best strikers in Europe having hit 45 goals in all competitions since moving to Goodison Park on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2014.

He has scored 18 goals in the top flight this season, at least seven more than anyone at Chelsea.

John Stones has committed four defensive errors in the Premier League this season – the second most at Everton.
