Chelsea Transfer Report: Bosnia international wants to play for Blues & Veteran star receives Chelsea offer

Chelsea second-choice goalkeeper Asmir Begovic has announced his desire to stay at Chelsea and play under Antonio Conte next season.

The experienced shot-stopper was signed by Jose Mourinho last summer, but saw the Portuguese released after Chelsea lost 9/16 Premier League matches.

Begovic has since played under the Blues’ temporary boss Guus Hiddink, but the Dutchman is on the verge of completing his interim contract, leaving Conte to take charge this summer.

The 28-year-old Begovic, who was brought from Stoke City, insists that he wants to claim a spot in the Blues’ squad next season, having competed with Thibaut Courtois throughout 2015/16.

During his interview with the Daily Mirror, the goalkeeper said: “It will be an interesting summer. I am not thinking about moving on.

“When the new manager comes then I hope decisions will be made and then we can go from there. What the options are and what will happen, I don’t know.

“My goal is to be playing at the club and to help contribute. I would love to stay, but sometimes the decision is out of your hands.”

The 24-year-old Courtois has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea in recent months, potentially opening an opportunity for Begovic ahead of the new term.

The former Atletico Madrid man has been Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, but with injury problems and two suspensions, he has missed 15 Premier League fixtures.

The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has deputised in each of those games – plus two as a substitute, following Courtois’ red cards – keeping a total of four clean sheets.

Meanwhile, Chelsea legendary captain, John Terry thanked the Blues fans for their support following the receipt of his contract offer this week, while cryptically revealing the deal is for “a different role”.

The current contract of the 35-year-old veteran is set to expire next month, and due to his current suspension for receiving a second red card of the Premier League campaign, it looked as though he had donned Chelsea jersey for the final time.

The Premier League giants confirmed on Friday that they had finally issued an offer of a one-year contract extension to the experienced superstar.

Though many supporters rejoiced upon the announcement, presuming its acceptance was just a formality, the defender has now reacted to the news by claiming he needs time to consider the proposal.

Via his official Instagram account, John Terry sent a message to his fans: “Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes.

“The contract extension the club has offered me is a different role and I hope everyone will understand I want to take the time to consider it carefully before making a decision.”

The former England captain has certainly posed an intriguing comment, generating speculation as to whether the potential new deal would incorporate a coaching role or advisory position.

Terry – who earns a reported £150,k-per-week – has endured a mixed season on the field, as Chelsea relinquished their 2014/15 title with very little fight.
