FA hand Chelsea and Tottenham combined fine of £600,000 after Stamford Bridge clash

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur have been given an unprecedented combined fined of £600,000 for failing to control their players in the recent game at Stamford Bridge.

The two sides clashed at the start of the month as Eden Hazard’s late equaliser ensured Leicester City were crowned Premier League champions.

However, the pulsating encounter also saw a hefty 12 yellow cards dished out by referee Mark Clattenburg, with nine of them being given to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

There was also a subsequent six-match ban for Mousa Dembele after he was caught on camera gouging Diego Costa’s eye, whilst a touchline fracas at the final whistle saw Guus Hiddink fall into the dug-out area.

Chelsea must now pay £375,000 while Spurs have been fined £225,000 with both clubs being warned about their future behaviour for their part in the ugly scenes.

The Times reports that the reason behind the Blues receiving a bigger sum was the fact that the club have been fined on four previous occasions for mass confrontations since November 2014.

Chelsea were given combined fines of £90,000 after incidents against Arsenal and West Ham United earlier in the season, whilst Spurs were also fined for failing to control their players against West Bromwich Albion in December this campaign.

The aforementioned source reports that Chelsea’s fine eclipses Arsenal’s record of £175,000 for failing to control their players in a controversial game with Manchester United back in 2003.
