According to the Times, if Chelsea are unable to land top target Romelu Lukaku, they could pursue the transfer of Christian Benteke from Liverpool instead. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is aware that Everton are reluctant to sell Lukaku, and is lining Benteke up as an alternative. The 25-year-old joined the Reds from Aston Villa last summer in a massive £32.5 million move, but has struggled for minutes under Jurgen Klopp and is widely tipped to be sold in the transfer window.

The Turkish international has had difficulties breaking into the senior squad since registering for the Catalans in January, and had been subsequently linked with a move. However, Fernandez dismissed the transfer gossip, stating ‘hopefully, he will be decisive next season’.

Rumours have suggested that Antonio Conte remains a fan of the winger nonetheless, and wants Cuadrado as part of his future plans for the Blues.
