Chelsea the first and last team to score against Fraser Forster

The two goals that Chelsea scored against Southampton on Saturday were not only the first goals that Fraser Forster has conceded this season, but also the first since he last played Chelsea.

Towards the end of last season Forster suffered a really serious injury that kept him out of the entire first half of the 2015/16 season.

He made his comeback in the middle of January and he kept six clean sheets in the first six games between the sticks again.

Chelsea managed to beat Forster twice on Saturday and he’ll be really disappointed by the first one in particular, which he will feel he could have done better with. The last team to score past him prior to the game were, in fact, the Blues and it seemed inevitable his record would finally come to an end against the back in-form Chelsea side.

They drew 1-1 at Stamford Bridge in March 2015 with Diego Costa scoring the goal and despite his long lay-off, Forster’s long spell without conceding is due credit, coming up on a year.

It goes to show how important a player he is for Southampton and he seems certain to be one of England’s three goalkeepers who will be going to the Euros this summer.

The Saints are seventh in the table at the moment, although Liverpool could overtake them should they win their game in hand, and they’ll be harbouring ambitions of securing a European football next season.
