Monaco vice-president suggests Radamel Falcao could return in the summer

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has revealed that Chelsea loanee Radamel Falcao could return to the French club in the summer.

The Colombian struggled on loan at Manchester United last season and he has found matters rather difficult at Chelsea this term, with his injury problems continuing.

Vasilyev told RMC (via Goal): “We thought about bringing him back in January, but he was injured.

“We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. We won’t exclude the possibility of him coming back to the club in the summer.”

Falcao has scored just one goal in his nine Premier League appearances this season and appears a shadow of the player who scored with such regularity during his time at Porto and Atletico Madrid.

The forward, who has a concerning average shot accuracy of 50% in the top flight this campaign, is hoping to return to action to after struggling with a groin strain.

Even once he returns to full fitness, Falcao will face a battle to get game time, with Diego Costa installed as the club’s first-choice centre-forward, while Loic Remy and recent loan arrival Alexandre Pato are additional options for interim manager Guus Hiddink.

Chelsea will return to Premier League action on Saturday afternoon with an away game against Southampton.

The Blues’ form has notably improved since Hiddink took over from Jose Mourinho, although there is still much work to do, with Chelsea currently languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table.
