Italian manager Antonio Conte could be at Stamford Bridge tonight to watch Chelsea’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain as he nears the Blues job.
Express Sport understand that Conte, 46, is Chelsea’s No1 candidate to replace Guus Hiddink as manager at the end of the season.
Conte’s representatives have been thrashing out a deal with Chelsea counterparts since last month.
A pre-contract agreement is expected to be confirmed before the end of March.
And sources in Italy last night claimed Conte may be present to watch over his prospective new team in west London this evening.
He has meetings with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich scheduled in Monte Carlo next week.
It is understood the former Juventus head coach has demanded a three-year contract worth £18million.
He would succeed interim boss Hiddink a few days after Euro 2016 in France concludes on 10 July.
Meanwhile, it emerged yesterday that Conte’s appeal to bring forward a court case on match fixing has been granted by an Italian judge.
Italian manager had asked his hearing, which will examine his alleged role in the match-fixing scandal that dogged Italian football five years ago, to be moved so as not to clash with the European Championships.
His new date is 4 April and the trial should be completed within a month.
As for Chelsea, they need to reverse a 2-1 defeat from the first leg of last month’s last-16 clash in Paris.
Defending champions Chelsea winger Willian is the subject of mounting interest from Paris Saint-Germain and a raft of Chinese clubs after a stellar campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Paris Saint-Germain coach Laurent Blanc has received glowing reports on the Brazilian since scouts began watching Chelsea in preparation for the clubs’ Champions League meeting.
French manager is keen to bring in a hard-working wideman to replace Ezequiel Lavezzi, who left for China last month.
At least three Chinese clubs are also known to be interested in making the 27-year-old former Shakhtar Donetsk star Willian the latest big-money addition to their Super League.
Meanwhile, David Luiz has warned that PSG are ready to go to war at the Bridge.
The French champions bring a 2-1 lead into the second leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday night.
Brazil defender Luiz signed for PSG from Chelsea in 2014, then scored a crucial away goal last season to send Blanc’s side through to the quarter-finals.
He said: “I think things are looking good for us to qualify. I am ready for war, for the battle.
“Chelsea know how to get results. We have to be careful.”
La Liga champions Barcelona are looking into sealing the transfer of young Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen this summer, it has emerged.
Defending Premier league champions 19-year-old starlet has impressed hugely during a two-year loan at Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach, playing as either a centre-back or defensive midfielder.
And Earlier today Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that the performance of youngster has attracted the interests of Barca as they look to strengthen in those positions for next season.
andreas-christensen-chelsea_3102427Christensen’s fellow Dane and former Barcelona star Michael Laudrup has supposedly recommended this signing to the La Liga side.
Meanwhile, Guus Hiddinks team will take on Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues trail 2-1 from the first leg, and face an uphill task to turn it around against the French champions. Guus Hiddink’s men will go through if they are able to get on the scoresheet and keep a clean sheet. That is easier said than though, as their backline has leaked goals freely this season. The onus to come out and attack will also be on Chelsea, which will leave even more spaces for Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Co. to exploit.
Their chances have been dealt a further blow, with Hiddink ruling out captain John Terry from the game. The centre-back has missed the last 5 games with a hamstring problem sustained against Newcastle United in February. It was suspected that he might have a slight chance of returning against PSG.
Dutchman, as quoted here by Chelsea’s official website said, “We’d like to have all our defensive players available, but I don’t think John will make Wednesday.
“For the time being there has not been enough development to put him on the list on Wednesday. It’s not worse – he can run, but he still cannot go into a longer stretch which you do when you accelerate – there he must be careful.”
