Chelsea News Summary: EPL duo on radar, Chelsea will battle Real Madrid for the Serie A ace

Chelsea open early talks with La Liga outfit over deal for attacking midfielder

Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda is having a brilliant start at Betis. The midfielder has impressed the club during his first month at the club and Betis already want him to stay for next season, according to the Spanish press.

Reports from Spain suggest that Betis will do whatever they can to keep the player for one more year, as his loan from Chelsea expires in June. The midfielder has one goal and one assist in his first six games in La Liga.

It is believed that Musonda is willing to stay at the Spanish club for one more season, but the paper consider the deal to be complicated, because the 19-year-old has been doing so well that Betis are afraid it could draw attention from bigger clubs, and Betis want to start talks now so they can beat other clubs.

Musonda signed for Premier League defending champions from RSCA in 2012 for £1.88. Last month, we covered Marca’s story which said Chelsea won the race for the Belgian player, despite interest from Real Madrid and Barcelona, partly because they also managed to sign his two brothers.

List of Premier League stars Chelsea should definitely target for summer

With just nine games remaining until the 2015/16 Premier League season officially draws to a close, it’s time to start thinking about the summer transfer window.

It looks set to herald significant change at Chelsea. For starters, they’re welcoming a new manager – assumed to be Antonio Conte – who will want signings of his own choosing. Secondly, it seems inevitable at least some players will be held responsible for the reigning champions’ abysmal title defence, so we could see a few big names abruptly moved on and new recruits drafted in.

Either way, the Blues will be busy in the transfer market this summer and although the Premier League has developed a trend of acquiring cheaper players from abroad, there is an obvious benefit to signing those with proven pedigree in the English top flight.

Christian Benteke’s stock may not be at its highest right now, making as many Premier League starts as substitute appearances since his £32.5million move from Aston Villa, but that’s why the Liverpool striker could prove such a shrewd acquisition for Chelsea.

Indeed, the beastly Belgian has been deemed incompatible with Jurgen Klopp’s philosophy and resultantly found his game-time in the Premier League seriously slashed, so it’s more than likely the Merseysiders will have to sell at a slight loss this summer.

The 25-year-old is still the Reds’ top scorer across all competitions with eight goals and his top-flight credentials remain undoubted an affluent spell at Villa Park, netting 49 times across three seasons.

Chelsea’s style of play suits the 6 foot 3 target man’s strengths far better than Liverpool’s, as a traditionally physical and direct side, and the Blues are in need of a dependable alternative to first-choice striker Diego Costa.

Premier League defending champions Chelsea infamously saw three bids for John Stones rejected by Everton last summer and although he’s come under some criticism this season, the England international remains one of the most exciting home-grown prospects currently in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old boasts rare pace, agility and skill for an English centre-half, comparable to a young Rio Ferdinand – or dare I say it, Bobby Moore – and Chelsea’s ageing backline is crying out for a youthful injection of speed and enthusiasm on the ball.

No doubt, Stones has a knack of playing his way into trouble. But mistakes will be ironed out as he matures and with John Terry’s contract yet to be renewed, the time is right for Chelsea to invest in a long-term successor.

Once again, however, the biggest stumbling block is Everton’s reluctance to sell a star whose contract doesn’t expire until 2019. They turned down bids around the £40million mark last summer and Stones’ value could further increase if he performs well for England at Euro 2016.

Real Madrid will be Chelsea's main rival in pursuit for £20m-rated Serie A powerhouse

According to the Daily Star, La Liga giants Real Madrid have joined Chelsea and Manchester United in the race to sign Roma midfielder Radja Nainggolan.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been linked with the 27-year-old ahead of the summer transfer window, with incoming managers Antonio Conte and Pep Guardiola both reportedly huge fans of the industry and control he brings to the engine room.

Belgian defender, famed for his robust physicality and quality in possession, has been enjoying good form this season, averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 49 passes and 1.1 created chances per match from 26 Serie A outings.

According to La Repubblica, the Premier League duo now will face serious competition for Nainggolan’s signature from La Liga giants Real Madrid, who could reportedly axe up to ten first team players in the coming transfer window.

Italian outfits alleged £20.5million valuation is well within the financial reach of all three clubs, but few players have managed to resist the allure of the Bernabeu in favour of a Premier League move in recent years.
