Conte Asked to Keep Holland On?

It now seems that, if the English media have all their facts straight, we can expect the current Italian national coach, Antonio Conte, to be named as the next manager of Chelsea Football Club.

Now whether Conte will be the success we all hope he will be and guide Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League remains to be seen.

He could be a roaring success, he might be a flop of he might have us languishing in mid-table obscurity.

But, if Conte is the new chosen one, I hope that the club giving him the freedom to manage and do things the way he wants, although, perhaps, that is asking for too much.

Unfortunately, the signs are already there that this might not be the case. Reports in the Daily Telegraph suggest that Conte will be encouraged to keep the current first-team coach, Steve Holland, as part of his back-room staff.

Now we`re not questioning Steve`s abilities as a coach and we have nothing but admiration for the loyalty he has shown Chelsea since he joined the club, but surely if Conte is our man he has to be given a free-hand in bringing in who he sees fit to help him steer the club back to glory.

Now there might very well be a place for Steve Holland somewhere in the set-up, whether it is a place Holland would feel comfortable in remains to be seen.

But if our source is correct with its suggestion, it saddens me to see legends like Lampard, Drogba and now quite probably Terry being allowed to just walk out of the Stamford Bridge exit door with no guaranteed inference they will, sometime in the future, be part of the clubs plans, but just given the merest hint, a hint of appeasement perhaps!
