Things I Hate (1)

Football has certainly changed since I was a youngster.

Gone are the days when I queued up at the turnstiles, handed over a few shillings (come on you must remember pre-decimal coinage) and ran up the steps at the back of the Shed before finding myself a barrier to lean on enabling me to get a good view of the action.

In those days it was all the rage to have a silk scarf tied around your wrist, quite why I still can`t fathom out, but with it flailing in the breeze as you ran down the road, the consensus was that you looked the business.

Tied around your neck would be a woollen blue and white scarf, a tribal trait, worn with pride and, quite often, with a few embroidered Chelsea patches sewn onto it.

Wonderful, wonderful days, days we`ll never see again I suspect.

No fast forward to the present day and what do you see, those bl**dy half and half scarves, one half with the beloved colours of Chelsea Football Club on it and the other with the name of our opposition with the date of the fixture invariably sewn somewhere into the pattern.

Now that`s not a scarf displaying allegiance, it`s a bl**dy souvenir!

Okay, I get it if it is for a major final, like the wonderful one in the Allianz Arena in Munch when Chelsea cemented their place in Champions League history, but not for every match played at Stamford Bridge.

I just don`t get it!

My blood boils when I think, somewhere down the line this season, some people will be walking about with a half-and-half scarf on when Spurs visit, it makes me cringe.

If you insist on buying a scarf, make sure you declare your allegiance, not sling some souvenir around your neck.

Half-and-half scarves, I hate them, how about you?
