People Can’t Believe Ruben Loftus-Cheek Now Earns Twice as Much as Dele Alli

Ruben Loftus-Cheek was awarded a new five-year contract by Chelsea yesterday – and a bumper rise to earning £60,000 per week.

That’s despite the 20-year-old midfielder – who made his debut for the club last season – appearing just eight times this season and scoring one goal.

In comparison to Tottenham youngster Dele Alli, who is younger than Loftus-Cheek and has played more for club and country this season, it’s a ridiculous increase.

But Chelsea must believe the midfield man is the future of their club and have moved to tie him on a long-term deal to keep him.

The wages of both players have been a talking point ever since Loftus-Cheek put pen to paper on his deal just over a month after Alli got his.

According to the Telegraph, the Chelsea man will earn £60k per week for the next five years of his contract.

That’s double what Alli reportedly earns, with the Times running with £30k on their story about his new deal in the middle of January.

We can’t believe there’s such a difference in salary given Alli’s been the standout young player in the Premier League this season while Loftus-Cheek has warmed the bench for a struggling Chelsea side.

And a lot of football fans can’t either:

That last tweet actually comes from Times writer Matt Hughes, and he goes on to clarify that he believes the work Tottenham have put in to Alli since they signed him from MK Dons last January is what he’s referring to by “youth development”.

Still, Loftus-Cheek has a lot of potential and could go on to prove that paying him £60k per week is a bargain when he gets his chance in the Chelsea first team.
