Zlatan Ibrahimovic has just won his 13th league title in 14 seasons as Paris Saint-Germain destroyed Troyes 9-0 to wrap up Ligue 1 with eight games to spare.
But the future is uncertain for Ibrahimovic who told reporters after the game: “I am not in PSG next year,” before adding: “I don’t believe they can change the Eiffel Tower for my statue but if they can I will stay here, I promise you.”
Speculation is intensifying as to what the Sweden international’s next move will be with PSG keen to keep him and a lot of clubs keen to sign him but his agent Mino Raiola refused to give anything away, saying: We know what we want. But we won’t say anything until the summer, when the season is over.”
A Premier League move is heavily rumoured and there is little doubt Ibrahimovic would be welcomed in England, but which side would best suit him?
Arsenal
Ibrahimovic almost signed for Arsenal when he was a youngster but opted to sign for Ajax instead. Over a decade later and the move could happen again, and it would work for the Gunners. They still need a top-class striker and although Ibra isn’t a long-term option he would be a great free signing to compete with Olivier Giroud, Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck.
Chelsea
The Blues saw the kind of damage Ibrahimovic can inflict from close up last week as his goal and assist knocked them out of the Champions League. With Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba and Petr Cech all gone Chelsea lack experience and big characters and are short of options in attack – for these reasons the signing could work for them.
Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp and Ibrahimovic together could be a match made in heaven. Liverpool fit the bill as the kind of club that could attract a player of Ibra’s calibre and he could certainly provide the magic to keep the crowd entertained but it may all depend on whether or not Champions League football is on offer.
Manchester United
Old Trafford would provide the kind of stage Ibrahimovic would thrive on, and the potential appointment of Jose Mourinho would also count in United’s favour but without Champions League football he could look elsewhere.
Manchester City
Pep Guardiola’s arrival at City and the presence of Sergio Aguero as first choice means this is unlikely to happen. Battle lines have been drawn up between Guardiola and Ibrahimovic before and it is hard to imagine the Swede being happy with a place on the subs bench.
Tottenham
Spurs need another striker to help out Harry Kane but with a strict wage structure in place it is unlikely Ibrahimovic will be heading to White Hart Lane any time soon.
West Ham
The wild card option: it is an outside bet but with Slaven Bilic’s side playing brilliant football, heading into a new stadium and potentially qualifying for Europe it can’t be dismissed. Ibrahimovic and Payet could make a brilliant duo.
