19 Goals 22 Assists In 46 Games Midfielder Set To Join Chelsea, £46.8m Bid Made

Having seen a humongous bid rejected last summer, Chelsea are back on track for the signing of an attacking maestro ahead of the summer transfer window.

German source Bild claims that the London club are set to enter talks with Borrusia Dortmund for the signing of the Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The German giants having rejected a reported £46.8 million bid from Roman Abrahamovich now find themselves boxed into a tight corner. The player’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2017 and all plans to tie him down to a new contract have gone futile. When quizzed on his future at the club he was apt to reply: “I do not know yet.”

His agent was quoted as saying last summer that his client wants to leave the club. However, his stat for the German giants portrays otherwise since he boasts of a staggering 18 goals and 18 assists for them thus far this season.

Chelsea are at the mercy of Eden Hazard at the moment. He recently declared his undying love for the club and insisted that he would still remain at Stamford Bridge next season. However, his protean character is not to be trusted and he is likely to go AWOL if Real Madrid come calling.

An attacker of Mkhitaryan’s quality is certainly needed if they are to compete for major honours next season because trusting solely on a rebellious Hazard is too much of a risk worth taking over the course of a season.
