Arsenal are interested in signing one of their long term target Kostas Manolas who currently players for AS Roma in the Serie A. The former Olympiacos star was linked with a move to Arsenal in 2014 but AS Roma ended up signing the Greece international after agreeing to pay more money than the Gunners.
With Per Mertesacker now looking like he will be leaving Arsenal any time soon as he turns 32 later this year, Wenger seems to be keen on bringing in another centre back and will reportedly try to sign Manolas this summer having had Arsenal scouts have a look at him so many times this season.
According to reports, one of Wenger’s main priorities this summer is the signing of a centre back to partner with Laurent Koscienly who is Arsenal’s number one centre back. With Arsenal already been linked with Mats Hummels, John Stones, Marquinhos among others, it appears having scouts Manolas so many times, Wenger is more interested in signing the powerful ball playing defender ahead of the other targets.
As Roma paid £10.3 million to sign him in 2014 but are said to be demanding at least £30 million for him. The player has also been linked with a move to Chelsea. Chelsea are said to want him as replacement for soon to depart club legend John Terry.
We however expect Arsenal to beat Chelsea to his signing as the lack of European football next season at Stamford Bridge means Arsenal have a better chance of signing Manolas ahead of the Blues. This will certainly annoy Antonio Conte who is said to be very keen on signing the Greek.
