Ranieri v Mourinho: Leicester hero can’t help jab at ex-Chelsea rival"

Speaking ahead of Leicester City‘s home game against West Ham United this weekend, Claudio Ranieri has aimed a jab at his old rival Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho replaced Ranieri at Chelsea ahead of his first stint at Stamford Bridge, and while the Portuguese coach enjoyed the kind of success that evaded his Italian predecessor in West London, it’s Ranieri who is having the last laugh.
The veteran Italian coach contributed to Mourinho’s dismissal from Chelsea earlier in the year when his Leicester side saw off the Pensioners 2-1 in December, while the East Midlanders look set to nab the Premier League title won by the London heavyweights last season.

Since their original interactions back in 2004, the two men have shared various barbed exchanges and unhappy altercations.

In the latest episode, Ranieri has taken a swipe at Mourinho’s record in Italy, and attempted a spot of revisionism.

“Maybe some forget that I did well in Italy,” the Leicester coach began, speaking to the media [as per The Sun].

“I took Juventus, fresh from promotion to Serie A, into third place,” he continued. “I did well with Parma and Fiorentina, and don’t forget that when Inter won the treble, I got more points with Roma than Mourinho did [with Inter].

“I came in during the season, and from the point on I got a bigger points total than the Portuguese, and without the sub-par start to the league, the Giallorossi (Roma) would have won the Scudetto.
