What will Radja Nainggolan bring to Chelsea after agreeing a 5-year deal?

Chelsea are close to signing the AS Roma midfield star Radja Nainggolan for a reported fee of £26million, according to Goal. Incoming manager Antonio Conte is a big fan of Belgian powerhouse and wants him as his first summer signing.

According to Goal, Nainggolan and Chelsea have been in advanced talks for last few days and have now verbally agreed a deal which will see the player sign a 5-year contract with the Premier League side.

With Nainggolan’s proposed arrival, we take a look at how he would have an immediate impact on Conte’s new look Chelsea side next season and what will he bring to Stamford Bridge?

Nainggolan playing in the 4-2-3-1

Nainggolan is regarded as one of the most ferocious tacklers in the modern game and his presence would allow Chelsea to have a solid shape to their midfield. Last season we saw the very best of Cesc Fabregas and it was largely down to the brilliance of Nemanja Matic, who gave Fabregas the freedom to go forward to dictate the play for The Blues.

Nainggolan would provide similar assurance to Cesc and we could once again see Chelsea midfield dominate Premier League next season. Another important facet to Nainggolan’s game is his ability to play key passes and create chances.

According to Opta, Nainggolan has played 37 key passes and created 38 chances this season. Miralem Pjanic is also linked with Chelsea in the summer, which would make Nainggolan’s commanding presence all the more important for Conte as he would allow the other flair players to go forward and win games for The Blues.

Nainggolan playing in the 4-3-3

Nainggolan is not all about tackling and interceptions, the Belgian is known for his passing and creativity as well. This season, Nainggolan has completed 85% of his passes and has scored 5 times.

If Conte decides to play a 4-3-3 formation, Nainggolan would ideally be playing at the tip of 3-man midfield. Paul Pogba is another big name player linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, who could slot alongside Nainggolan in midfield.

AS Roma star has been one of the most dependable players this season and it is hardly a surprise to see Chelsea push for his transfer before any other attacking options. Nainggolan would sort out Chelsea’s midfield which looked really fragile this season.

Antonio Conte wants impact players in his squad and given Nainggolan’s tenacious playing style and incredible work rate, he would be an automatic fit for Chelsea. The Blues are expected to go through a massive squad overhaul in the summer with this Belgian midfield powerhouse being the most important inclusion.
