Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield in their penultimate match of a torrid season.
Liverpool started the brighter side and looked close to breaking the deadlock on numerous occasions with an onslaught of shots but the Chelsea defence stood firm for the majority of the 90 minutes.
The deadlock was eventually broken by Eden Hazard after a mesmerising run which saw the Belgian skip past the Liverpool defence with ease and culminated with a curling finish past compatriot Simon Mignolet.
Chelsea looked to have secured all three points with Liverpool rarely threatening until late when a deep cross was mishandled by Asmir Begovic and Christian Benteke was on hand to nod the ball into the empty net.
Benteke’s goal ensured both sides would come home with a point that did little to effect either’s league standing. The point for Chelsea secures a top half finish in what has been a desperately disappointing title defence by the Blues.
