Chelsea ‘agree deal’ to sign Euro 2016 defender from Juventus

Chelsea have agreed a significant deal in the transfer market to bring Leonardo Bonucci to Stamford Bridge, according to The Sun.

The Juventus defender remains a top target for incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte, who is currently managing the 29-year-old centre-back at the European Championships with Italy, and reports suggest a breakthrough has been reached.

Bonucci is said to have agreed a £130k-a-week deal with Chelsea but a fee with his employers, Juventus, is not yet agreed. However, it’s expected the Blues will raise their offer in order to land the experienced defender.

Conte will take charge at Chelsea after Italy’s involvement in the European Championships and faces a major task in rebuilding the west London giants after a disappointing season, which saw them miss out on European football next term.

The defence is likely to be a big focus of Conte’s and Bonucci would add an experienced head to the back, as well as being a suitable replacement for veteran John Terry- who recently signed a new one-year deal but is expected to retire next summer.

Any transfer is unlikely to materialise under after Italy’s involvement in the summer tournament, which could go all the way as the 2006 World Cup champions have enjoyed a terrific start to their campaign.
