According to the Daily Star, Chelsea are getting closer to get the signature of Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci, as the Blues considering the £39.8m offer for the Italian defender.
According to the Italian Rai Sport, Chelsea incoming head coach Antonio Conte has acted on his interest in the Juventus centre-back with a hefty offer. But the Serie A winners are said to have rejected the proposal and are thought to be asking for £47.5 million.
The same sources claim that Juventus are keen to keep hold of their talismanic defender and are in fact looking to bolster their defensive options rather than selling their experienced stars.
The 29-year-old Bonucci caught the eye for Italy during their surprise 2-0 win over Belgian national team in Euro 2016. Antonio Conte is clearly a big admirer of the centre back and managed him in Turin as well as in his current role as Italy’s national boss.
Leonardo Bonucci has joined the Old Lady back in 2010 and has made 274 appearances for Juve.
The move for the 29-year-old strengthens belief that Antonio Conte is planning to implement a 5-3-2 formation at Stamford Bridge next campaign.
