Back in January, when it became obvious that we needed a back-up striker to Diego Costa, we`re assuming the net was cast far and wide to find a suitable candidate.
With Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao not providing the back-up required, with Remy seemingly having a penchant to be injured at the same time as Diego Costa and Falcao intent on picking up his cash for doing nothing, many thought that this might be the ideal opportunity for Patrick Bamford to prosper.
Instead, having endured a nightmare loan spell at Crystal Palace, Bamford was sent to the wilds of Norfolk for something very similar.
Meanwhile, those who had cast the net far and wide, identified one Alexandre Pato as the answer to our needs and somebody who could give us the back-up we so desperately needed.
His capture, albeit on loan, was viewed as an option worth pursuing, by whom I`ve yet to find out, even more so when it was revealed he was only going to be on circa £130,000 a week.
Upon arriving, we were told that the Brazilian wasn`t fit and that he wouldn`t be for several weeks.
Well that was January ad now, with March just around the corner, it`s revealed in The Sun, that Pato is no nearer being considered fit enough for first team selection, despite having pocketed something approaching £100,000 in wages.
Meanwhile, a promising youngster, Bertrand Traore, is getting some valuable game-time, coming on when games are won enabling Guus Hiddink to manage Diego Costa. Traore has repaid the faith Guus has in him by hitting three goals already.
This tally exceed that scored by Radamel Falcao in the whole season and as for Pato, well the less said about that the better, which brings me on to the main crux of this article, what bright-spark agreed that Pato was the best option available?
It kind of makes you wonder what the bloody-hell is going on down at our club sometimes does it not?
