5 deserving players from EPL who were not selected in England squad

The end of this Premier League season is marked with the international event at France that will see nations from all over the world compete in the world of football.

The EURO16 to be played in France later this year is set to be more than just entertaining with the likes of Germany expected to go all the way. But England has been another team that has been superb since the debacle at the World Cup two years ago.

Roy Hodgson’s squad is unbeaten in the qualifiers leading to this tournament and for the first time in a while, they will go into the competitions as one of the favorites.

They announced their squad for the EURO16 earlier this month and it has raised a lot of eyebrows not only for the players included but also for the players who missed out.

As expected, England team selection was dominated with players from the big four of Premier League, and perhaps was a harsh call for some of the more deserving stars from the current Premier League season.

Here is a list of 5 players who are deserving of a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the EURO16:

        Scott Dann (Crystal Palace):

One of the most consistent performers in the Premier League for a while, Scott Dann has been superb this season and has been solid at the back even as the Eagles have slumped to just one win since the turn of the year. He is strong in the air and is also a brilliant reader of the game which helps him snub danger out before it can hurt his team. The likes of Gary Cahill, who had a disastrous season so far are unfairly called up for this tournament before the Crystal Palace defender.

        Troy Deeney (Watford FC):

Watford’s long serving skipper Troy Deeney has been a force to reckon with this season for all the clubs in the Premier League. The 27-year old has been exceptional in Sanchez Flores’ 4-4-2 formation alongside Ighalo who is also having a great time. Deeney is an old fashioned forward who loves to get on to the nerves of the oppositions and also has a unique eye for goal that can help England in France later this year. However, if he has enough pedigree to lead England in the EURO16 is up for discussion.

        Aaron Cresswell (West Ham United):

West Ham United have done something very cruel to Hodgson as the 68-year old has often in the past neglected the Hammers and their players in giving them a place in the national squad. Aaron Cresswell has been superb for the Hammers since his move to the club two years ago. He has since been an important player for the club and has been exceptional all along this season for Bilic’s side. However, the fact that he could not find a place in the squad for the EUROs is a bit baffling from the outset.

        Marc Albrighton (Leicester City):

The Leicester city mid-fielder who is capable of playing on the left and the right hand side of the mid-field has played an important role in Leicester’s run to the top of the table. He has been excellent in controlling the mid-field and is calm and composed even under pressure. He has six assists to his name this season and surely deserves a place in Hodgson’s squad for the EUROs. However, it is still to be seen if he is good enough to start for his national team.

        Mark Noble (West Ham United):

The biggest name missing from Hodgson’s squad is that of West Ham skipper Mark Noble. The 28-year old has had a stellar season under Slaven Bilic and has 3 goals and 4 assists this season. He has a passing percentage of 86% over the whole of the season. He has close to 300 Premier League appearances and has been the power house in the mid-field for the Hammers and is closing in on the peak of his career. He surely deserves a spot in England’s squad that is travelling to France later this year.
