The Belgian spent three seasons on loan with Atletico Madrid from Chelsea and during his time in the Spanish capital Courtois rose to prominence, and is now considered one of the world’s best young goalkeepers.
The 23-year-old has been first choice at Stamford Bridge since last summer, when he returned to the Premier League, but it appears the shot-stopper could be set for a move back to La Liga.
Real president Florentino Perez is desperate to bring in a new goalkeeper, despite the excellent form of Keylor Navas, but found last year that signing Spaniard De Gea from Manchester United will prove tricky.
It’s likely to be more difficult now De Gea has signed a new contract at Old Trafford, and Courtois tops the list of other players Real could look to sign instead.
Chelsea, on their part, are prepared to sacrifice one of their star players to offset their financial loss for not qualifying for the European competition, but had been intended to sell either Diego Costa or Eden Hazard, the Mail report.
