Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink revealed he is hopeful of having both John Terry and Gary Cahill back in training later this week as the experienced duo close in on a return from injury.
Terry has missed five of Chelsea’s last six Premier League matches with hamstring and calf injuries while Cahill has been absent for their last two games in the top flight with a thigh problem, but could be back soon.
Hiddink, who started with Matt Miazga – a January signing from New York Red Bulls – and Branislav Ivanovic in central defence against Swansea City, has revealed that he expects both Terry and Cahill to make their return to training this week.
John Terry has won 68% of his Premier League headed duels in 2015/16.
“He [Terry] was having training on Saturday morning and I’m sure he was watching the game, but he was having training in Cobham,” Hiddink told reporters in his post-match press conference.
“I told him get your treatment and hopefully as soon as possible he will be involved, like Gary Cahill in the upcoming days.”
Chelsea host Manchester City at Stamford Bridge this coming Saturday so Hiddink will be desperate to see either of his first-choice centre-backs return to action, particularly after having to take Miazga off at half-time at the weekend after struggling so much at the Liberty Stadium.

Terry will also be extremely keen to get back to action as soon as possible too, though the club legend’s future is still unknown as things stand, with no contract yet to be offered to the 35-year-old.
His current deal expires this summer and he may only have just a handful of appearances remaining in the Chelsea blue.
