he Evening Standard claim Real Madrid are keeping close tabs on the Belgium international and could make another move for him in the summer.
Having failed to land first-choice target David De Gea from Manchester United, who’s since signed a new contract, Madrid apparently approached Chelsea about Courtois’ availability.
But the Blues rebuffed a move from the La Liga giants and they are sticking to their guns with the huge price tag.
Chelsea’s valuation of the 23-year-old means Madrid would have to more than double the world-record transfer fee for a goalkeeper.
Gianluigi Buffon joined Juventus from Parma for £23.3m back in 2001, and that figure is yet to be topped.
Madrid were set to break the record when going after De Gea in a £29m move last summer, but that sensationally collapsed at the final hour.
Courtois therefore could stay at Stamford Bridge due to the £73m price tag, with the keeper under contract at Chelsea until 2019.
However, having spent three seasons with Atletico Madrid on loan, Courtois is apparently keen to return to Spain one day.
A difficult campaign at Chelsea will encourage Madrid in convincing Courtois to move though, having suffered with injury as well as the team’s struggles on the whole.
While away on international duty, Courtois also revealed he prefers playing with Belgium.
He told RTBF: ”It is not only the fault of the [Chelsea] defence, although I prefer to play with the defence of the Red Devils.
