Three things we learnt from Chelsea’s win away at Hull

Goals from Diego Costa and Willian secured an important victory for Chelsea over a resolute Hull City, on Saturday afternoon.

The away side were in desperate need of some points after disappointing defeats to both Liverpool and Arsenal in recent weeks, and obliged after manager Antonio Conte made some interesting changes including personnel and formation.

As for Hull, there uncertain future goes on, with both manager and Premier League status already looking under threat as a season that started well could quickly turn sour.

Over the next few pages, here’s what we learnt from the 2-0 victory for Chelsea:

Conte finally goes to three at the back – and the team looked better

It seemed only a matter of time before the manager went to the formation he is famous for, and after some defensive woes in recent times the change finally came. Cesar Azpilicueta was moved to the right, with David Luiz and Gary Cahill alongside. Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso came in as attacking full-backs.

A clean-sheet, and positive performances from both Alonso and Moses suggest that the change had its merits, but the team will still need to pass some challenges before we know whether or not three at the back will work for Conte and the Blues.
